This Land is Your Land
As an elementary schooler singing the words "...from the redwood forest to the Gulf Stream waters, this land was made for you and me," I dreamed of one day seeing those redwoods in person. It may have taken more than a few decades to get there, but I made sure to make that dream come true on this year's road trip! Hahaha. Cruising along through the Avenue of Giants, with the sunroof open and beautiful music playing in the background, was an absolutely magical way to start Day 7 of our journey. With shafts of sunlight bursting through the canopy of leaves overhead and a host of redwoods as far as the eye can see, it was a picture perfect moment in time.
Seriously, though.
(Not pictured -- Jane and Isaac dry heaving off the side of the road.)
Just as memorable, perhaps, was our emergency stop a little while later, when the twists and turns of hwy 101 finally got to some of us and we had to pullover for some air. Thankfully, once we got back on the road it was smooth sailing towards the Skunk Train Depot in Fort Bragg for our midday activity. While we may have all been a little underwhelmed with the train ride itself (it was REALLY slow), everyone agreed that the grove of redwoods at the turn around junction helped to redeem the experience. Haha. After walking around and enjoying the setting for about 15 minutes or so, we headed back to the depot, where I purchased the requisite bumper sticker and magnet for our road trip souvenirs before hitting the road once again.
(I really love trees.)
Alex and Isaac had a lot of fun playing underneath this platform.
We ended the day with another magical moment, crossing the Golden Gate Bridge during the golden hour as we made our way to San Francisco for the next pit stop of our journey. Stay tuned for that recap, where I will inundate you with pictures and memories of our stay in the City by the Bay...
