 Alright!  We are ALMOST done, people!  Let's put this road trip recap to rest.  ;)

After our Bear Lake reunion (and after being away from home for over 2 weeks), we were all ready to just get ourselves home.  We had initially planned on breaking the drive down into 2 days, with a stop in Denver for the night, but after doing some thinking and figuring, we decided to just push through and knock out the drive in one go.

So, on Saturday morning (Day 16 of our trip) we loaded everyone and everything up and hit the road. Other than a necessary middle-of-the-night stop at a rest area in middle-of-nowhere Kansas, it was a pretty uneventful drive.  {I could tell Scott was starting to fade around the 2 AM mark (and I have terrible night vision especially while wearing my glasses, so I wasn't fit to take the wheel), so we pulled over and let him sleep in the car for about an hour, while I hung out with Alex and Isaac outside in the dark.  It was an experience, let me tell you.  Hahaha.  The irony was that the younger ones didn't fall asleep until around 11 and then woke up as soon as we stopped the car at the rest area.  I wanted Scott to be able to get as restorative a nap as possible in our hour there, so I knew getting those two out of the car was going to be a necessity.}  An hour later, Scott was a little more bright eyed and bushy tailed and we tackled the final stretch of the road.  Blasting the Hamilton soundtrack while driving helped to keep everyone awake.  Hahaha.  We finally rolled into town a little before 6, but before we could all crash and catch up on some sleep, we had the minor inconvenience of being locked out of the house and needing to call a locksmith.  Doh!  Never a dull moment, right??  Hahaha.  Thankfully, it didn't take TOO long to get into the house and we were able to fall fast asleep without the nuisance of needing to set any alarms.  It was glorious.

When I finally woke up later that morning, this was the sight I saw in the kids' room.  It pretty much sums up our homecoming.  Haha.

And there you have it!  Our summer Road Trip 2019 is in the record books.  {And now we can finally get back to our regularly scheduled programming.}

(#20 on my 40 Before 40 is checked off!  Building up that bumper sticker collection one pit stop at a time.  Hahaha.)
